The tee shot on this par 5 (only 458 yards from the tips) is paramount to the players’ eventual success. The dogleg right must be negotiated carefully or the stream running down the right side comes into play immediately. The skilled player wants to drive down the left side with a fade to take advantage of terrain sloping from left to right. A well-played drive can leave the long hitter with as little as 180 yards to the green. Keeping strategic golf at the forefront, Jones allows the average player to drive into the generous fairway followed by a short layup. This is followed by a 100-yard shot uphill to a well-bunkered green. When a new set of back tees are introduced during the upcoming renovation, this hole will be considered one of the finest par 4’s in the world. |
