Description So far Jones has shown a golf course designed with the three main architectural principles of Strategic, Heroic and Penal. He has even combined the three on one hole. Now the sixth offers Jones’s own “Freeway” golf principle. A straight-away par 4, this hole features bunkering left and right from the tee to the green. Hit the ball down the middle and the player avoids all of the obstacles. Stray to either side, and the player could end up playing “Army” golf (left, right, left, right). Because the swales running through the fairway can wreak havoc on ground balls, playing shots into the air is important. Architecture buffs will note that Jones has presented six holes thus far, and six distinctive holes showing every type of design philosophy.
